Cosimo Filippini è nato a Lugano nel 1979. Da bambino ha occasione di frequentare Helmut Gernsheim restando affascinato dalla sua collezione personale. E’ la madre, realizzatrice di documentari presso la Radiotelevisione della Svizzera Italiana, che per prima lo educa all’immagine. Pure la scoperta dell’opera del nonno, il pittore Felice Filippini ha influito in modo determinante nella sua formazione.
Nel 1999 si trasferisce a Milano dove frequenta l’università Bocconi (si laurea nel 2004) e il conservatorio (si diploma in pianoforte nel 2008).
Dal 2007 si dedica alla fotografia.
Dal 2008 fotografa stabilmente la G. Mahler Jugendorchester, un’orchestra composta da giovani provenienti da tutta Europa.
Ha fotografato l'allestimento della mostra Palladio 500 anni, CISA Palladio, Vicenza, curato da Aldo Cibic.
Ha partecipato a Collezione Pubblica: omaggio a Piero Manzoni. Idea nata dallo street-artist Bros, una triplice personale presentata nel mese di ottobre del 2008 nell’ex-atelier di Piero Manzoni a Milano, con la collaborazione del videomaker Jacopo Miceli;
Con Bros e Jacopo Miceli ha anche ideato la performance DESTNY. Basata sulla Commedia di Dante, si tratta di un'installazione plurisensoriale che intende sovvertire l'idea di paradiso, Purgatorio e Inferno. DESTINY è stata presentata a Milano presso la Società Umanitaria, con la collaborazione della Cooperativa del Raccolto, nell'ambito della mostra Dante 100 x 100.
Collabora con Marie Claire Italia; le sue foto sono inoltre state pubblicate su Oggi, A, La Repubblica Milano, E Polis Milano, Corriere Milano, Il Giorno, Terre di Mezzo e Tribe, mensile di cultura musicale e giovanile.
Ha recentemente aperto il suo studio.

Cosimo Filippini was born in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1979. As a child he knew Helmut Gernsheim, the pioneer historian of photography . Cosimo was strongly impressed by his collection of photographs, today housed at the University of Texas at Austin.
His first education in the use of images came from his mother, a film maker at the Swiss-Italian Television (RTSI); the discovery of the work of his grandfather, the painter and graphic artist Felice Filippini, was also important in directing his interest towards the visual arts.
In 1999 he moved to Milan, where he studied at the Bocconi University and at the Conservatory, where he graduates in piano in 2008. In 2005 he started to collaborate with the “11 Studio”, where he has concentrated on portraiture.
Since 2008 he works for the G. Mahler Jugendorchester; an orchestra composed by young people from all over Europe.
Recently he took photos of the exhibition Palladio 500 anni,, CISA Palladio, Vicenza (exhibit by Aldo Cibic).
In October 2008 he worked on Collezione Pubblica: omaggio a Piero Manzoni, an homage to the Italian dadaist artist Piero Manzoni made together with the street-artist Bros and the video-maker Jacopo Miceli. Based on an idea by Bros, the exhibition took place in the former atelier of Manzoni, in Milan.
With Bros and Jacopo Miceli he conceived DESTNY, a performance based on Dante's Commedia. A multidisciplinary installation that intend to overturn the general idea people can have about paradie, purgatory and hell. DESTINY took place in July 2009, in the Società Umanitaria of Milan, in collaboration with the Cooperativa del Raccolto, during the exhibition Dante 100 x 100.
He had assignments from Marie Claire Italia and Tribe, an Italian magazine devoted to music and young people culture.
His photos have been also published in Oggi, A, La Repubblica Milano, E Plois Milano, Corriere Milano, Il Giorno and Terre di mezzo.
He recently opened his own studio.
His next projects include series on cities and city-life experience, together with the swiss photografer Fabian von Unwerth.
He photographs with every kind of camera, format and film.
