Cosimo Filippini è nato a Lugano nel 1979. Da bambino ha occasione di frequentare Helmut Gernsheim restando affascinato dalla sua collezione personale, oggi conservata presso l’università del Texas, ad Austin (Gernsheim è stato, tra l’altro, lo scopritore della prima fotografia di tutti i tempi, di Nicéphore Niépce). E’ la madre, realizzatrice di documentari presso la Radiotelevisione della Svizzera Italiana, che per prima lo educa all’immagine. Pure la scoperta dell’opera del nonno, il pittore Felice Filippini gioca un ruolo determinante nella sua formazione. Nel 1999 si trasferisce a Milano dove frequenta l’università (si laurea nel 2004) e il conservatorio (suona il pianoforte) e prosegue il suo percorso con un attento studio dell’iconografia e della tecnica compositiva. Dal 2005 collabora con l’11 Studio e svolge lavori di ritratto. I suoi prossimi progetti sono un lavoro di nudo ambientato che coinvolge coppie di giovani, e una serie di ritratti di musicisti italiani. Con l’11 studio sta preparando un progetto sul tema dell’accoglienza per conto di ‘Opera S. Francesco’, che comprenderà anche uno spettacolo teatrale e un documentario che si svolgerà nel mese di dicembre del 2006. Fotografa in analogico con varie macchine di diversi formati, in bianco e nero e a colori. In digitale con Canon e Nikon. Cosimo Filippini was born in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1979. As a child he knew Helmut Gernsheim, the pioneer historian of photography (Gernsheim rediscovered the first photograph ever, by Nicéphore Niépce). Filippini was strongly impressed by his collection of photographs, today housed at the University of Texas at Austin. His first education in the use of images came from his mother, a film maker at the Swiss-Italian Television (RTSI); the discovery of the work of his grandfather, the painter and graphic artist Felice Filippini, was also important in directing his interest towards the visual arts. In 1999 he moved to Milan, where he studied at the Bocconi University and at the Conservatory (he plays the piano). In 2005 he started to collaborate with the “11 Studio”, where he has concentrated on portraiture. His next projects include nude studies of young couples in interiors, and a series of portraits of Italian musicians. With other members of the Studio he is taking part in a project on the social work of the “Opera San Francesco”; this ambitious photographic and multi-media exhibition will be presented in Milan in December 2006 and will include a theatrical performance and a documentary. He photographs with black and white and colour films, using cameras of different formats, as well as Canon and Nikon digital cameras.
